Christmas time in our house usually involves a slow progression to opening of gifts, an unexpected morning phone call, Mom’s sausage casserole, lots of coffee, and of course, pictures of gifts being discovered for the first time.
When I was 17 I got my first camera. Long before the digital age, this Samsung beauty quickly became the favourite gift I had ever received. I captured the farm animals, friends at youth group, and family dinners. I took good care of this gift. Used it a lot. It was my choice possession!
I read in James this morning how God has a choice possession of all His creation. You and me! Humanity.
James 1: 17-18 says, “Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights. Unlike them, He never changes or casts shifting shadows. In His goodness He chose to make us His own children by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became His choice possession.”
What is your favourite thing you own? Do you give it special attention?
Now think about the world we live in. The beauty therein. I’ve seen the glorious thunder of the waves crashing and felt the skin-tickled-mist on a Hawaiian shoreline. I’ve watched the stillness of a prairie sunset. Drove through and flown over the majestic Rocky Mountains. And in future I will behold the beauty of Africa and more European countries. This world we live in is stunning. The attention God gave to its detail unmatched. Yet beyond all that, YOU are His choice possession. You, are His favourite.
Don’t ever think God doesn’t care about the details going on in your life! Look around you. He’s all about detail!
