One of my favourite memories of growing up was the family weekend potlucks – grandma and grandpa, aunties and uncles and cousins…. would all pig out on the good food, laugh, play around the farm, and try on hand-me-downs. My family hugs a lot. Can sometimes be loud. And sometimes soft and gentle. And I must admit, since I moved away from home nearly 12 years ago, it is the main thing I have missed – family time.
I read last night in my Bible in Ephesians 1:4-5 – “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”
You know, we didn’t have any choice of which earthly family we came into. But we CAN choose to be a part of God’s family. We CAN let Him Father us and love us. After all, before we were ever a glimpse in our parent’s eyes, we were perfectly thought out in God’s.
Lisa Bevere shared on her Twitter from one of her books, “Holiness is not God asking us to be “good”; it is an invitation to be “His”.(Kissed the Girls & Made Them Cry). I would reckon to say (yes, reckon) to compare that to God calling us into His family, and that it has nothing to do with what we do, it’s about who we are in HIM. It’s about what we believe, which effectually changes our do 😉
God wants you because He made you, not because you’re good or need help even. Simply, because, you, are. And it gives Him, the God of the universe, great pleasure to have you in His family!
Chew on that this Monday…
